Is That Really Your Intuition Speaking... Or Something Else?
Telling true from false intuition is an art that can be learned until it becomes secondhand discernment you can count on, no matter what.

Have you ever experienced one of those moments of piercing clarity - a knowing so profound it feels etched into your bones? And then, in the space of a heartbeat, watched doubt creep in like silent and insidious arthritis, until that bone-solid certainty begins to atrophy and disintegrate?
This dance between deep knowing and doubt has become one of the most challenging spiritual paradoxes of our time. As our world grows increasingly chaotic and our nervous systems more overwhelmed, many of us find ourselves adrift in a sea of mixed signals, struggling to distinguish the clear music of true intuition from the clamoring noise of anxiety, wishful thinking, and conditioned responses.
Today, I want to share some three unmistakable signatures of authentic intuitive knowing, and three warning signs that what you're experiencing might be something else entirely.
Let's begin with truth's fingerprints - three of the biggest signs of authentic intuition:
Sign #1 of True Intuition: The Signature of Stillness
True intuitive insights arrive with a remarkable quality of stillness. Unlike the chattering mind's endless "what-ifs" or the emotional body's urgent demands, genuine intuition emerges from a place of profound quiet.
Imagine you're standing beside an ancient mountain lakes: pristine, undisturbed, and radiantly clear. When the water is churned up by winds (like our minds disturbed by worry or excitement), any reflection will be distorted. But when the water is perfectly still, it reflects reality with crystal clarity. Unlike the churning waters of mental chatter or the turbulent waves of emotional reactivity, genuine intuition emerges from depths of profound quiet.
When these insights arrive, time itself seems to pause. Knowledge simply appears, fully formed, like moonlight suddenly illuminating the bottom of the lake floor and revealing every rock, plant, and fish. You don't need to chase it, analyze it, or piece it together. It simply is: complete, coherent, and crystal clear.
Emotional neutrality is key. While you might have feelings about the intuitive message you receive, the message itself comes through clear and calm, like pure alpine lake water. This is why meditation and other stillness practices can be so powerful for developing intuition—they help us recognizes this quality of pristine clarity when it appears.
Sign #2 of True Intuition: The Three-Soul Symphony
When true intuition speaks, it resonates through all three aspects of your being in perfect harmony. Your Waking Soul receives the clarity, your Body Soul feels the resonance, and your Dream Soul grasps the deeper meaning, all at once, like a chord struck on an ancient instrument whose vibrations you feel in your bones.
This creates what I call soul coherence, a whole-being knowing that leaves no room for doubt. It manifests as a clear thought accompanied by a distinctive body sensation, a visionary experience that carries undeniable physical truth, or a knowing that registers simultaneously in your mind, heart, and gut.
When all three souls align in this way, it creates an unshakeable certainty quite different from intellectual conviction or emotional sureness. It's as if your entire being is humming in perfect resonance, each aspect of your soul complex contributing its unique voice to a singular, harmonious truth.
Sign #3 of True Intuition: The Persistence of Truth
True intuitive guidance always aligns with your deepest personal values, not the expectations others have placed on you, not societal pressures, but your authentic inner truth. This alignment feels like coming home to yourself, a recognition of something you've always known but perhaps forgotten.
Think of your true nature as a tuning fork: when intuition strikes that note, every part of you resonates with its truth. It won't ask you to betray your core values or abandon what matters most. Instead, it gently illuminates places where you've drifted from your authentic path.
This is precisely why developing reliable intuition requires honest self-knowledge. You need to know your real values—not the ones you've inherited or adopted to please others—but the genuine principles that guide your soul's journey. Your three souls won't guide you against your true nature; they're designed to help you express it more fully.
Sign #1 of False Intuition: The Urgency Trap
A reliable red flag of false intuition is a feeling of desperate urgency. While true intuition can certainly arise around time-sensitive matters, it rarely carries the frantic energy of "you must act NOW or everything will fall apart!"
True intuition burns like an eternal flame: steady, clear, and consistent in its guidance.
False intuition flickers like a dying flashlight: inconsistent, demanding, and designed to create emotional reactivity rather than clear seeing. This false urgency often appears as a compulsive need to make immediate decisions, pressure to act before you're "too late," or anxiety-driven rushing that clouds clear thinking.
When you feel this kind of pressured urgency, it's often your Waking Soul operating in emergency mode rather than true intuitive guidance. Take a breath. Real intuition will wait for you to find stillness before acting.
Sign #2 of False Intuition: The Emotional Entanglement
While true intuition can carry emotional resonance, false intuition is usually deeply entangled with unprocessed emotional states. It's particularly clever at disguising emotional wounds or unmet needs as intuitive insights.
This false guidance tends to confirm your deepest fears, change intensity based on your emotional state, or feed into old trauma patterns and unhealed wounds. To be clear, your emotions are valuable sources of information–but if left unchecked they can cleverly disguise themselves with false motivation in order to try to keep you safe and protected–even if there's no real danger.
True intuition comes through clear and distinct from your emotional weather, even when delivering challenging messages. You may feel an emotional reaction in response to receiving true intuition, but the intuition itself remains neutral.
When you notice a strong emotional charge simultaneously with what seems to be an intuitive hit, pause and ask: "Is this genuine insight, or am I sensing through the lens of an unexamined andor unprocessed feeling?"
Sign #3 of False Intuition: The Fantasy of Wish-Fulfillment
Perhaps the most seductive form of false intuition is when our desires masquerade as insight. True intuition speaks with the voice of a wise elder, telling you what you need to hear, whether comfortable or not. False intuition acts more like a people-pleaser, crafting elaborate stories that perfectly match your wishes while avoiding harder truths.
You might notice this showing up as:
"Intuitive hits" that consistently confirm your preferred outcome
Guidance that seems to promise easy solutions to complex problems
Messages that feed into grandiose fantasies or escape routes
Insights that conveniently avoid any need for real change or growth
"Signs" that always support what you already wanted to do
This doesn't mean true intuition will always lead you toward difficulty! Sometimes the right path is indeed the joyful one. But when every intuitive message aligns perfectly with your wishes while bypassing reality's complexity, it's time to look deeper.
Now, let's bring this wisdom down from the ethereal heights and into the sacred mess of everyday living. Because here's the thing about developing genuine intuition - it's not just about learning to spot spiritual counterfeit bills. It's about remembering how to dance with your own inner knowing, how to court it like a lover, how to trust its whispers even when the world is screaming for your attention.
This is where the real magic happens : in the intimate hands-on practice of building a relationship with your own soul's way of speaking.
Let me show you how to weave these threads of discernment into the tapestry of your daily experience, so that distinguishing true intuition becomes as natural as recognizing an old friend's voice in a crowded room.
The Integration Practice
One of the most powerful ways to develop genuine intuitive discernment is what I call the Integration Practice. Like a master weaver working with three essential threads, this practice examines how potential intuitive insights register across all three aspects of your soul complex:
Waking Soul Check:
Does this insight maintain its clarity when examined calmly?
Can you hold it in your awareness without needing to constantly defend or justify it?
Does it feel like knowledge rather than convincing?
Body Soul Check:
How does your body respond when you sit with this insight?
Is there tension or ease in your physical form?
Where specifically in your body do you feel the response?
Dream Soul Check:
What images or symbols arise around this insight?
Does it connect to deeper patterns in your life?
How does it feel in your imagination space?
True intuition will register coherently across all three levels, while false intuition reveals its nature through inconsistencies when examined this way.
The Values Alignment Check
Your core values serve as your personal life compass - an unfailing guide when navigating the waters of intuitive insight and day-to-day living.
Begin by identifying your actual current values, not aspirations or "should" values:
What truly matters to you right now?
What principles do you naturally live by?
What feels non-negotiable in your life?
What do your actions (not your words) say about what you value?
Write these down without judgment. Maybe you value comfort over adventure right now, or stability over growth. That's perfectly fine! Being entirely honest about your current values is key, rather than what you wish they were.
True intuition might challenge you to grow beyond your current values, but it will do so in a way that honors who you are. It might say, "You value security, and here's a secure way to stretch."
False intuition tends to demand value abandonment: "Forget everything you believe in for this shiny promise."
Remember: True intuition may invite you to expand your values but never to violate them. It builds upon your authentic foundation rather than demanding you abandon it.
P.S.
If you found yourself nodding along while reading about the three signatures of true intuition, or if you've experienced that moment of crystal-clear knowing followed by doubt, know that you're not alone in this journey. Share this letter with others who might be wrestling with their own intuitive gifts.
Understanding how to distinguish true intuition from its counterfeits is too important to keep to ourselves, especially in these overwhelming times. Together, we can help each other remember how to trust our deepest knowing once again.
Thank you for this, dear friend! Came my way at exactly the moment it was truly needed. Sending you lots of gratitude and light 🙏🏼✨
